Bauchi – The Bauchi State Police Command has raised the alarm over plan by some hoodlums to kidnap children during the Sallah festival.
Haruna Mohammed, Police spokesperson in the state, who gave the alert in a statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Monday warned parents and guardians to monitor the movement of the children.
He said, “Intelligence report at our disposal revealed that some undesirable elements who infiltrated the state are planning to kidnap under-aged children for ransom or other motives.”
“Against this backdrop, the Command urged members of the public especially parents and guardians to monitor their children and be security conscious by paying special attention to strangers and report suspicious persons or objects within their neighbourhood to the nearest Police Station or through the emergency number, 08151849417, for prompt response,” he said.
The Command thereby assured members of the public of its commitment to providing safe and secured environment before, during and after the Eid- El Fitr Sallah Celebration.
Haruna also urged them not to relent in providing useful information that might assist the command in promoting safety and security in the state.
Meanwhile, the state Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old suspected kidnapper in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
“In addition to kidnappings, the suspect also mediates and negotiates ransom, dispose cows of victim at a giveaway price and take the proceeds to his gang, “on behalf of the victims.”
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include fabricated revolver gun and three cartridges.
Haruna said the case was under investigation and that efforts were ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and bring them to justice.
