Terror threat advice for Britons travelling to popular destinations
It has been warned there is a "high threat" from terrorism in the country and that Kurdish groups, Islamic State and far left organisations "continue to plan and carry out attacks".
"Further attacks are likely and could be indiscriminate," according to the FCO website.
It tells Britons: "You should be vigilant, follow the advice of local security authorities, monitor media reports and keep up to date with this travel advice."
Here is what the Foreign Office has to say about other top destinations for UK visitors.
:: France - high threat from terrorism
Due to ongoing threats to France by Islamist terrorist groups and recent French military action against Islamic State "the French government has warned the public to be especially vigilant and has reinforced its security measures".
In the wake of the lorry attack on a Berlin Christmas market that killed 12 people: "The German government has announced that increased security has been put in place as a precaution at public buildings, major events, transport hubs and large public gatherings."
:: Greece - general threat from terrorism 'and acts of political violence'
The FCO states: "Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by foreigners.
"High profile British interests in Greece should be vigilant and regularly review their security measures."
Travellers are warned of the likelihood of an increased security presence at major events that may attract large crowds.
People are advised to "remain vigilant and follow the advice of local authorities".
:: Portugal - underlying threat from terrorism
Attacks, although unlikely, could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.
:: Spain - general threat from terrorism
Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.
While the Spanish authorities took measures to protect visitors, people "should be vigilant and follow the instructions of the local authorities".
The FCO states: "Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. You should monitor media reports and remain vigilant at all times."
It says individuals could be "inspired to target public events or places", as highlighted by attacks in New York, Orlando and San Bernardino.
"Attacks could take place with little or no notice," it adds.
'Ready to die': Legion of Honour for Nice heroes
Franck Terrier rode his scooter alongside the truck, grabbing the side of the cab and punching the driver several times through the open window to stop him smashing into more people.
"I was ready to die," he said at the time.
He told French media: "I remember the bodies flying everywhere... My wife pulled my arm and asked me where I was going. I stopped. I said, stay back! And I accelerated."
And he also told how he had to slalom among the dead and injured to catch up with the lorry. "I wanted to stop him at all costs," he said.
He told how the driver, still with his foot on the accelerator, pointed the gun at him and looked him in the eye.
Mr Nigues will also receive the Legion d'Honneur for his bravery - as will two police officers who ran after the lorry and shot the driver dead.
The state said the officers were being named Guardians of the Peace for "chasing on foot, and neutralising the lorry driver with the help of their weapons, and while risking their lives".
He killed 86 people and left another 400 injured in the attack, for which Islamic State claimed responsibility - although they have never provided evidence of Bouhel's affiliation with them.
The Nice attack was the first terror atrocity of its kind and was followed last month by a copycat attack on a Christmas market in Berlin, in which 12 people died.
2017: Mbaka advises Buhari
Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka
Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry in Enugu State has advised President Muhammadu Buhari on leadership in the New Year.
He gave the advice in Enugu on Saturday in his New Year message at the cross over service to 2017.
He advised the President to tackle the challenges facing the country, saying “many Nigerians are suffering.
“Though the President is trying on corruption and security, Nigerians are hungry; they want to see more changes.
“There is the need to assist businessmen and women in their businesses.”
He also advised the President to appoint experts who would help him to revive the economy.
The cleric asked the President to consult Church leaders and eminent men of God
to advise him and tell him the truth about the economy.
“We cannot reach him for advice because of the kind of people around him,” he added.
He then urged Nigerians to be patient and be prayerful “as your sufferings and hardships would be over in 2017.
“Nigeria is set to be great again,” he stressed.

Buhari’s silence on Southern Kaduna genocide worrisome – CAN
President Buhari of Nigeria
The Christian Association of Nigerian has condemned the killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna describing it as ethnic and religious cleansing by “Islamic fundamentalists disguising as Fulani herdsmen”, with evil intention of wiping off non-Muslims.
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for his relentless war against the Boko Haram terrorists since assumption of office, CAN however, said it was pained by “his silence over the ongoing genocide in the last few weeks.”
The General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, said Buhari’s silence over the ongoing genocide in the last few weeks “speaks volume over perceived official endorsement of the dastardly and ungodly acts.”
He said, “In view of the present predicament, the President of CAN has directed that Sunday January 8 2017, should be declared national day of mourning by Christians including those in Diaspora.
“We are to pray fervently for our Southern Kaduna brothers and sisters who are victims of these wanton killings and also for the peace of our dear country Nigeria. Therefore, all Christians are to dress in mourning attire of black clothes or dresses in all our church services on January 8 2017. We are to pray that God who delivered the Jews from Haman should deliver Christians from Hamans in Nigeria. An injustice to one is an injustice to all.”
CAN also called on all Christians in Nigeria and on the global scene to speak against the “ethnic and religious cleansing to wake up the Nigerian security agencies from their deliberate slumber to carry out their responsibilities.”
Asake said, “Though the church in Nigeria since 2009 has been subjected to a systematic genocide and persecution through the instrumentality of Islamic fundamentalists Boko Haram, leading to the killing of thousands of Christians and destruction of hundreds of churches, and over 50,000 houses, the current unprecedented onslaught against Christians in Southern Kaduna by the Islamic fundamentalists disguising as Fulani herdsmen under the watch of Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and President Muhammadu Buhari has reached an alarming stage.
