This week, Professor Wole Soyinka clocks 82 and various activities have been lined up by Nigerians to celebrate his successes – At one of the events in Ogun state, Soyinka said one of his greatest wish was to have all corrupt Nigerians end up in jail if they are found guilty As he celebrates his 82nd birthday.

A source reports that Soyinka, who had earlier said that Nigerians need to strip the federal government of its power, spoke while addressing 82 students who participated in the 2016 edition of the Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange programme held to mark his birthday in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Speaking on corruption and how it affects the arts, Soyinka pleaded with writers to to use their powers to help fight corruption adding that Nigeria needs to be returned to its past glory where those found guilty cannot walk freely on the streets.
“It is a battle for everybody and definitely the arts must be in front as usual,” he said at the event. Not just the arts, the theologians, the moralists, the philosophers, the architects, builders etc, It is everybody’s work.
The law, NBA, everybody is involved , even including you (journalists). “There is only one way for corrupt people; it ends in prison. It ends in Ibara, Oba or Kirikiri,” he added.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, urged the students to copy heroism from notable people like Soyinka.
He further pleaded with them not to give up on Nigeria in spite of the challenges facing it. “Just like Professor Soyinka is doing, you must continue to show love and support for the country irrespective of the challenges facing the nation,” he advised them.
