The four females, including an eight-year-old girl, were attacked by the man, who rushed at them on Tuesday morning, armed with a knife
The women were eating breakfast at the accommodation, VVF Villages Lagrand, when the 37-year-old man, armed with a small folding knife, rushed at them and began the frenzied attack about 10am.
He first attacked the young girls, who were sitting on the terrace, before charging into the accommodation at the mother.
He then tried to flee but was arrested by former police officers.
Boufarkouch was last known to police more than 15 years ago but the offence he committed is unclear.
Jean-Marc Duprat, a deputy mayor for the town of Laragne-Monteglin in the Hautes-Alpes region, said the man was upset they were wearing shorts and T-shirts.
Mayor Edmond Francou, further revealed to Le Parisien that the attacker was on holidays with his own family, including two children, from their home in Yvelines, west of Paris, when he launched the attack.
Local media has since reported that his home is now being searched by authorities with Mayor Francou further raising concerns that the accused was “psychologically ill”.
Boufarkouch had been staying at the accommodation next door and even shared a terrace with his victims.
It has now been revealed that the two holidaying families had known each other before the attack with his wife left in tears after finding out about the attack.
Concerns have since been flagged that the attack was potentially religiously motivated.
Police have since discovered the weapon, a small folding knife, at the scene.
While police have not yet confirmed the motive of the attack, local media has reported the attacker said the females were “too lightly dressed”.
The mother and two eldest daughters are believed to have suffered non-life threatening injuries.
