CT fraudster Johan Van Staden handed a hefty sentence

CAPE TOWN - Convicted fraudster Johan van Staden has been sentenced to a total of 46 years behind bars in the Western Cape High Court.
Van Staden was found guilty of more than 40 charges for defrauding the South African Revenue Service (Sars) of R250 million.

He’s been handed 20 years for two counts relating to money laundering, a further 20 years for several counts of fraud plus six years for three charges of reckless trading.
The sentences will run concurrently.
The case has been described as the biggest tax fraud case in the history of the province.
Van Staden stared straight ahead of him and showed no emotion as he has sentenced.
After learning his fate, van Staden nodded in the direction towards the judge before turning to acknowledge relatives who were seated in the public gallery.
