The Enugu state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is embroiled in crisis following a feud between the state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye and the vice chairman Anike Nwoga.
According to Vanguard, the state vice chairman of the party Chief Anike Nwoga has described the state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye as a square peg in a round hole. Nwoga says the APC would suffer an embarrassing defeat by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state in 2019 if Nwoye is not removed to pave the way for the re-organisation of the party.
The state chairman, Nwoye had accused Nwoga of engaging in anti-party activities for condemning the defection of Senator Jim Nwobodo to the APC.
The APC, had, Sunday, July 17, affirmed “a vote of no confidence” reportedly passed on the vice chairman by the Enugu east senatorial zone of the party for among other things, opposing the entry of the former governor of old Anambra state, Chief Nwobodo. In response, the vice chairman who denied accusations linking him with frivolous press releases attacking members of the party and other indigenous people of the state described the accusations as gossips. Nwoga dismissed allegations of anti-party activities against him, pointing out that he was being victimised by the party chairman.
He said: “APC is a political party but in Enugu State, it is being run like a limited liability company. The APC in Enugu State has three directors namely, Chief Ben Nwoye; the former gubernatorial candidate of the party, Chief Okey Ezea and the National Vice Chairman in the South East, Chief Emma Eneukwu. These three people are working for the PDP. Our party can never win election in Enugu in 2019 with Nwoye as chairman. “A visitor to the APC’s secretariat in Enugu will understand what I am saying. It does not look like an office of a serious and major opposition party. The office has no falg; it has not sign board to show what it is… Nwoye is not serious,” Nwoga added.
Meanwhile, the Rivers state branch of the PDP has alleged there is a big move by the APC to rig the Saturday, July 30 Rivers re-run poll. The PDP made this known during a press briefing at Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. The party likewise said it had unravelled a purported plan to nab some of its party stalwarts in Rivers state prior to rescheduled re-run elections.
