President Robert Mugabe has mentioned protest pastor Evan Mawarire for the first time today.
HARARE – Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has mentioned protest pastor Evan Mawarire for the first time today during a state funeral in Harare.
Mugabe stated that Mawarire is “not part of us” and suggested he and his supporters should go to live with their alleged foreign sponsors.
There have been protests around Zimbabwe over the past few weeks.
President Robert Mugabe says he doesn’t know Mawarire – the pastor who founded Zimbabwe's #ThisFlag movement and was briefly detained last week.
He says that not all churchmen are true teachers of the Bible and accused Mawarire of urging protesters to be violent.
The president was speaking at the state burial of his former chief secretary in Harare this afternoon.
Mugabe says the pastor should go to live with his sponsors if he doesn’t want to live in Zimbabwe.
That looked like a reference to previous state allegations that 39-year-old Mawarire is being funded and managed by Western countries.
