Democratic Party interns have posted pictures highlighting the ethnic diversity among their ranks following a controversial group "selfie" taken by Paul Ryan.
The Republican speaker's picture showed more than 100 GOP interns - but just three non-white people.
"I think this sets a record for the most number of #CapitolHill interns in a single selfie. #SpeakerSelfie," he wrote.
Several pictures have since been posted of Democrat interns.
Xavier Becerra, chairman of the House Democrats also posted an image that highlighted diversity among the party's interns.
“Thank you to all my hardworking #CapitolHill interns! We had a great group this summer.”
Mr Ryan's picture went viral, sparking much ridicule on social media, with observers stating it was "whiter than the Oscars".
One comment on the Instagram post said: "The diversity is overwhelming. So much for representation."
"That picture of Paul Ryan with the GOP interns is so white that I had to put on sunglasses to look directly at it," another commenter wrote.
Along with the ridicule, Mr Ryan's picture raised questions about how Republican interns are recruited.
