CAPE TOWN - The Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance Department says Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Danny Jordaan will not be investigated for an apparent irregular appointment.
Jordaan approved the employment of Linda Mti, the metro's head of safety and security, last month.
But the municipality failed to inform the MEC for Cooperative Governance within 14 days as prescribed by the Municipal Sections Act.
The municipality spokesperson says the documents were sent via the South African Post Office.
Mamnkeli Ngam says they are patiently waiting for the documents.
“There’s nothing sinister about the appointment, what we’re saying is that we’re waiting for correspondence to arrive. We want to give the MEC enough time to apply his mind in order to reply to the executive mayor of the metro.”
