What made Falz and Simi tick is love. Simi expresses a simplistic and innocent version of it, combining that with her good-girl pretty image. Falz is the eager, enthused man, searching for a bond which eludes him at every turn.
Simi and Falz are the perfect example of what music dovetailing ought to be. The duo, originally from different labels, and chasing the bright lights of stardom and music progression stumbled upon their chemistry with video of ‘Jamb Question’. This was a Simi who was still searching for her spot in the industry, after the success of ‘Tiff’, and a Falz, whose comic brilliance on social media just began to get accepted as a thing. Two forces on the rise came together for different roles.
Simi supplied the singing, Falz, the acting, and like a grand orchestra, they clicked with such accuracy that people saw the future.
‘You guys should release more music’, a comment rang on Youtube. Another skipped professionalism and progressed into the realm of romance. “You guys need to date and make this video come through”.
What people saw in that video, the two musicians felt, although it was and still is limited to the studio. They would later make a remix of ‘Jamb Question’, where Falz did contribute to the melody with a rap verse.
Simmering the chemistry did, and many called for a bigger project to come from the union. Fans craved for something to mark time and serve as a tangible, collection which engraves this musical bond into the stones of pop culture. Such was its potency and relativity.
What made Falz and Simi tick is love. Simi expresses a simplistic and innocent version of it, combining that with her good-girl pretty image. Falz is the eager, enthused man, searching for a bond which eludes him at every turn. Their hide-and-seek made many a person lovesick, as it struck a fundamental nerve within Nigerians. Love is a beautiful feeling, and the search for it, in its truest and pristine form, reverberates all through humanity. Relativity, personalization, correlation and causation, all came into play, and Nigerians clamored for more that screen-drug. They were hooked from the start.
Falz’s sophomore album, “Stories That Touch” came rolling through last year, and although tracks like ‘Karashika’ got a head-start, listeners of the project new that the most complete meal on the tracklist was ‘Soldier’ by Simi. The two performers reprised their earlier roles, although Falz switched from clumsy Cabbie to authoritative military officer, who combines wooing, with tactical bullying. Simi was a sharp-tongued wench with a curse on her lips. The video sealed the deal.
The duo have recently had to deal with rumours from the press, which claim that the music birds have taken their collaboration a step further and become lovers, with screen-love translating into real-love. On every corner they have been hounded with questions from reporters, sniffing for the scoop of their love life.
“Falz is my friend and that is it. In another world, you can interview me, and I will give you an answer. But in this world, cut”, Simi told HipTV. In his recent interview with NdaniTV’s Dorcas Shola Fapson on The Juice, Falz revealed that Simi has a boyfriend but he isn’t the one.
While many are openly disappointed that romance isn’t on the cards, Falz and Simi’s combination still has a lot more in store. The duo have been recording together, and they are ready to release a joint EP. The forthcoming project is titled “Chemistry”, and will feature the second part of ‘Soldier’, amongst other original songs.
Their match on screen was made in heaven…music heaven.
