SaharaReporters can authoritatively report that the former Deputy Governor and Senator of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to a statement from the EFCC an arrest warrant has been issued for the embattled Mr. Omisore.
Mr. Omisore is wanted in connection to receiving and misappropriating more than N700 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) in 2014.
It will be recalled that SaharaReporters first broke news of the Ekitigate election scandal when top Peoples Democratic Party politicians, including Mr. Omisore, bribed Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh to assist in rigging the Ekiti State gubernatorial races. Mr. Omisore was present during this meeting and was anxious to test these methods on his then upcoming 2014 gubernatorial election in Osun State. His election was foiled when whistleblower Captain Sagir Koli leaked the audio which ruined the group’s plans.
It was later learned that money was stolen by the then NSA Sambo Dasuki under the guise of national security funds and distributed to these plotters including Mr. Omisore, former Minister of State for Defense Musiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of Police Affairs Jelili Adesiyan, and current Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose.
The EFCC has also said that “instead of responding to the EFCC’s investigation Omisore had approached the Federal Capital Territory High Court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.”
This news follows reports published by SaharaReporters that the EFCC is closing in on Mr. Obanikoro, who featured prominently in the Ekitigate leak, and plans to make him a wanted man. Mr. Obanikoro has been hiding in the United States since 2015.
