It was an evening of sports and entertainment at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, as the state governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike; Chairman, Capital Oil and Gas Plc and President, FC Ifeanyi Ubah; football legends, Nollywood stars, stormed the state, in honour of former Captain of the Super Eagles, Joseph Phillip Yobo. The event was the Testimonial Match held in honour of Yobo, who brought his playing career to a close yesterday. Yobo was the captain of the Nigerian national team until his international football retirement in June 2014. Yobo is also Nigeria’s record appearance holder, having been capped 100 times and represented the Super Eagles at three separate FIFA World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah played an active role in putting up the testimonial match in honour of Yobo. At the end of the hour-long encounter, Team Nigeria defeated Team World 5-4, in front of over 10,000 spectators. Emmanuel Emenike scored a hat-trick for Team Nigeria, which had the mercurial ex-International, Austin Jay Jay Okocha pulling the strings. Former Everton and Manchester United boss, David Moyes, took charge of Team World, that boasted stars like Samuel Eto’o, Stephen Appian and Sulley Muntari. See photos of the Testimonial match below:
