Vanguard's investigation, which necessitated visiting his Asokoro house, showed that the former COAS was neither invited by the Department of State Security (DSS), nor was he arrested as widely reported in the media. A close associate of the retired General when contacted described the reports as the handiwork of mischief makers adding that it is a figment of imagination of the authors of the story. On arrival at his house, Vanguard was privileged to see the retired general driving out of his compound in company of a friend, and in high spirit. “Here is a man who did a lot by fighting security challenges bedeviling this country particularly insurgency that was threatening the unity and oneness of the country to the best of his ability as COAS” the associate said.

Media reports had on Thursday indicated that the Department of State Service (DSS) arrested the former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), at a house in Maitama alleged to be his home. The report claimed Ihejirika was picked up by DSS agents on Tuesday night in Abuja to explain allegations of fraud when he was ‎Chief of Army Staff.
