Five killed in Delta communal clash

                                                   
             No fewer than five persons are feared dead and several others injured in Okpolo-Enhwe community, weekend, following an attack by suspected youths of Igbide community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. It was not clear why youths allegedly from Igbide launched the attack on Okpolo-Enhwe community but sources at Eyara, a clan in Okpolo-Enhwe community which shares common boundry with Igbide community, said that a land dispute which had lingered for over four decades, sparked off the attack which led to deaths and destruction of property worth millions of naira. An eye witness who craved anonymity for fear of reprisals, said that trouble started between the two communities on Thursday /Friday which made Okpolo-Enwhe community lay formal complaint against Igbide community at the police station over the issue of the boundry separating the two communities. Subsequently, policemen were deployed to Eyara which shares common boundry with Igbide community after the intervention of the Chairman of the local government area to keep the peace. The source said: “On Saturday, at about 8a.m., armed youths from Igbide brandishing cutlasses, daggers, battle axes, guns and petrol bombs, invaded Eyara, shooting and burning houses of prominent Okpolo-Enhwe indigenes. Everybody ran for safety. Women, children, the elderly, youths and even the police scampered to safety before reinforcement came from Ughelli and Warri. “Over 10 houses were burnt dawn after they were vandalized and looted. Five Okpolo-Enhwe indigenes have not been found at press time as they are feared dead,” the source added.
